The first cycle

The first cycle for students of one-subject study of philosophy after three years (six semesters, 180 ECTS) ends with the academic degree of bachelors of philosophy, and for students of study of philosophy and religious studies after three years (six semesters, 180 ECTS) ends with the academic degree of bachelors of philosophy and religious studies. At the end of the first cycle, the candidates are obliged to write a bachelor’s thesis of at least 30 pages. This cycle offers a general education in philosophy and religious studies disciplines and initial introduction to the scientific method and personal philosophic reflection.

The second cycle

The second cycle lasts two years (four semesters, 120 ECTS) and leads to the master’s degree from philosophy or religious studies. After the regular exams, optional courses and seminars, and master’s thesis of at least 50 pages, students take a comprehensive exam in the end of the cycle, which, according to the chosen specialization, refers to basic philosophic or religious problems and on the authors which the candidate has studied. This cycle offers deeper and more special philosophic and religious educations and leads to better use of scientific research method.

The third cycle

The third cycle, which regularly lasts three years (six semesters, 180 ECTS) and ends with a doctorate, leads to the maturity in scientific philosophic research or the scientific research of religious disciplines and qualification for university teaching. In order to achieve a doctorate from philosophy or religious studies, one must regularly over the three years be enrolled in the Faculty, to attend mandatory disciplines and exercises set in the Regulations of study programmes and to write a doctor’s thesis that he will publicly defend in front of the commission.
